Question about C6678 power consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD7242, UCD74111, TPS56121, LM10011

Hi,

In <C6678_Power_Consumption_Summary_Rev3_4> C6678 CVDD baseline is about 12389mA(CPU frequence 1400MHz).The EVM board(TMDSEVM6678Lx_EVM_REV_3_0)use TI_UCD7242RSJT for CVDD,but TI_UCD7242RSJT only supply 10A. Does that mean the EVM board can not run in 1400MHz?If

I want C6678 run in 1400MHz,should I use a  20A DC/DC for CVDD?

Regards,

Eli

  • Eli,

The C6678 is only rated for 1.0GHz operation.  This is seen in all of the reference software provided by it.  The EVM was designed and produced before the higher speed grade devices were released so it is not mentioned in the EVM documentation.

The C6678 EVM Known Issues document highlights that the power supply design only supports a CVDD load up to 10A.  Designs that need more CVDD current (i.e. those operated at higher clock speeds or those performing intensive processing such as streaming video) will need to use the UCD74111 rather than the UCD7242.  The C6670 EVM contains a 15A power supply design that can be copied.

The power solution on the EVM using UCDxxxx devices is a digital power solution.  A representative 15A analog power solution can be made using the TPS56121 and a LM10011.  Please see PMP7256.  This can be linked from the C6678 product page.

There are multiple e2e posts that discuss this topic and provide more information on these options.
