Web server CGI better solution

Hi Experts,

I am able to access the lighttpd web server sample page. There are number of CGI available like php/perl kind of things. But it seems like php-cgi occupies more space in the system.

Is it possible to use some other simple CGI which invokes shell script and occupies relatively very less space ?

My requirement is very simple like controlling the GPIO pins sort of things.
