H264 crop issue

H264 Encoder can not down scale the input to the required resolution. If you do not want cropping, please make sure that input is downscaled on ISP or SGX.

OMX Camera has a memory to memory mode which can be used for resize. You will need to go through OMX APIs and understand the usage.

 Okay.  In the overall high level view, OMAP543X + JB4.2.2 camera HW / SW design it can be possible to encode and store a video to a lower resolution while the input is capturing with higher resolution !  Is that my correct understanding?

I didn't realize this is for OMAP5. In this case you can't use ISP. You will have to use DSS or SGX for downscaling, but to answer your question - yes it is possible to downscale the captured input and then encode it.

  In our setup, an HDMI input is connected to CSI2 connector of OMAP 5 panda board through H2C bridge. The hdmi input resolution is 1080p. I need to record this video in 720p resolution.

  I have tried with ISP module to downscale and encode to store the input video, but no success. Please let me know your valuable inputs on how to achieve this ?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

 What is the failure indication / are you able to record at this point ( invoking the resizer) but cropping the input image?

 I haven't done any changes to omap_vout.c. 

 The resizer module is not enabled (because RZA_EN and RZB_EN register values are 0). I tried to set it with omapconf, but not working. How to enable the resizer module?

I dont think , it is that easy to use the resizers  just with the omapconf. Have you also checked required clocking to the ISS?

Since you are using OMAP5, ISP APIs will not be available. You should use either SGX or DSS writeback pipeline for downscale.,

I will recommend DSS writeback. You can find an example usage as a part of WFD in Android.

Ok. thanks, but WFD uses scale down operation ?  I want the input video to scale down and then to encode by H.264. Could it be handy ?

   #1. Can we set DSS for both display preview as well as WB pipeline for encode operation at the same time ?

   #2. Is it possible achieve the WB mechanism only with android application level changes or I need to modify the libstagefright and HAL modules accordingly (I use JB 4.2.2 android)?

   #3. Any kernel level changes are required (I use 3.4 kernel) ?

   #4. Why you suggested DSS over SGX  for video scaledown operation (just curious to know) ?

Yes

No. Android does not have OS level APIs to call DSS WB. You will need to modify one of HAL layers.

No kernel changes expected.

Depends on the SGX load. It is better to leave SGX for other compositions and use DSS which is most probably under utilized.

  One of your earlier post, you said ISP APIs are not available for re-sizing. But I have access to OMAP 5 ducati source code. Is it possible to use the ISP resizer/crop module code to downscale the video input resolution ?
