hello;

Can you help me? my project is related to standalone real time image processing for optical sorting needs at least 30 fps image processing on DSP platform without intermidiate PC.

the resolution of image around D1(720x480 pixels) of 8 bit per pixel of RGB color camera inputs.

please suggest me a best development board having the usb or camera Link input and vga or other video frame output all in single board. is c66xx capable for it?

How i can development image processing algorithm for the board to detect color differance objects ? is it possible on CCS.

i have to first dicide the hardware than i can go for simulations.

help me.

Hi,

From my understanding, you shall use the dsp C6678 for your development.

You can get DSP codecs and datasheets from:

I read about the c6678 and codecs;

but the format that in most codecs support are interlaced , which is not preferable for application to detect the shape of the object have high contrast background.

have you prefer some device and interface that directly send image frame without any encoding , interlaced or compressed ? so it can direly process by DSP and generate quick pneumatics output.

make use of codecs is compulsory ? give me your view .

also , Are you prefer the OMAPl138 ,DM6446 ,DM6467 and DM8127 platform ? are they good than c6678 ?

Hi Vasishth Desai,

Just answering part of your questions (I don't know the other answers). 6678 has the highest processing power of those devices you mentioned, but maybe it's not the more suitable for your application or you don't need all of its processing capability. I don't know. Regarding the video connections of the evaluation board, 6678 evaluation kit doesn't have those connections (VGA, for example) it has a serial with a serial/USB converter: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdsevm6678

Vasishth,

You can start your algorithm development on a C6678 without using Codecs. You can upload your RGB input images in DDR -> processing -> put output back in DDR

However, if you want a video input you would need a "DM" product (such as DM816x) which has Video capture/display and DSP+ARM. This are a little bit more complex devices, so maybe it is better to start with a simpler device for your algorithm implementation and tuning and later move to a more complex chip.

As a note C6678 has 8 C66x DSP cores while DM8168 has 1 C674x DSP core, so the migration would require some recompilation and be careful with platform modifications.

Yes; the C6678 is good dsp platform for real time image processing applications; the document below say same for machine vision applications.

but, the no one c6678 evm having the extra usb or any other fast interface for connect camera with board for my initial development,

having no such a remarkable camera input interface.

is it possible connect camera via some conversions or expansions boards which connect to c6678 board ?

please suggest me a available interface for camera on any c6678 / c6674 evm or some possible expansion board

for capture image interface on c6678 EVM at very fast data rate.

if camera interface issue is solve, then i am very near to finalize c6678 /c6674 platform as it best for my application.

but my fear is ,if i use this extra boards than the frame rate is becomes degrade,

please clear my query that; can i able to process multicore platform as it's independent RGB image as R having dedicated core ,G having dedicated core ,B having dedicated core ,plus another infrared image having dedicated core ?

total 4 cores used + other 4 for other functions for pneumatics real time control.

i have some camera that able to give independent RGB + Infra outputs at more than 30 fps;

At this level my fully requirements can listed following for selecting EVM;

1). The EVM must having multicore DSP (min 4 to 8).

2). The board must contain CameraLink or USB 3.0 input.

3). Having HDMI or VGA output.

4). Able to use IMGLIB and VLIB.

i know the requirements are very vast , but i am sure TI have some Solution on selecting EVM,

Hi Vasishth, you can use Shannon EVM (TMDXEVM6678LXE) + PCI adapter (http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdxevmpci)

However, you will need a host desktop in order to plug your PCI board.. I am afraid we don't have any other module to plug in order to enable Video Input/output for a shannon EVM board.

So, i think to solve problem by using Gbit Ethernet camera; because the TMDXEVM6678LXE is one and only solution.

is TMDXEVM6678LXE Ethernet provide drivers with board ? how they access Ethernet on our application code with CCS ?

is USB mini provided on TMDXEVM6678LXE is for only emulator and debugging purpose or we can make use USB mini as for our applications ?
