DM388 or DM8127 or ???

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM388, DM385

I'm upgrading my camera design from the DM368 "F" to the DM8127 or DM388 or ???  I need face detection AND recognition, and hope to add other analytics such as license plate recognition.  I'm guessing the DM8127 would allow additional analytics because of the DSP, but the noise filter in the DM388 is better.  They both seem to support 4K, but of the IPNCs available from APPRO, only the DM388 supports 4K out of the box.

I'm also worried about the DM388. When I look to buy samples, all distributors show as "NO STOCK".

I guess I'm asking for a recommendation on a chip that will handle 1080P60 or 4K15+ with face recognition and other analytics, and of course it has to be available.

Thanks in advance...

  • Hi ,

Both DM38x and DM8127 has face dectection hardware integrated.

But you mentioned face recognization and plate recognition, so DSP is required.

Since the ISP/IVAHD of DM8127/DM385 is almost the same I believe it is not a problem to migrate the SW of 4K support.

But please be noted that w/ the noise filter on, it only supports up to 1080p30.   And I have no idea what is the noise filter performance of appro DM388 ref design when 4K is enabled? Do you have data?

Dont worry about the availablity of DM388.   If you do worry about it, please check w/ sales representive/disty sales.

    Eason

  • Thanks for the help. I purchased the DM8127 APPRO IPNC through Digikey (faster delivery). It came with a CD-ROM with version 3.5 of the RDK / tools. I need to know who to email about getting FTP access to the latest RDK. I already have access for the DM368 RDK and a license for the face recognition library.

    Thanks...
