K2H SerDes PHY support stance

Hello,

I would like to clarify your support stance to choose GbE PHY.
My customer would like to use 88E1512 Marvell PHY with 66AK2H12.
It's not used in K2HEVM. But, it's used in K2EEVM.

I found the Note exists in spruho3.(P2-2)
It seems you recommend to use same PHY used in EVM.
And, you can not support of other PHY.

Question)
TI assumes that PHY is used same as EVM. Is that correct?
Should I facilitate them to replace 88E1512 to the same PHY in K2HEVM(88E1111) for their target board?

Best regards, RY

  • RY,

No, the "NOTE" doesn't assume that the same PHY as the one used on EVM has to be used for the K2 devices.

Yes, the 88E1514 <note: K2E EVM used 88E1514> will work with 66AK2H12. But customer should be aware of following concerns of the 88E1514:

          1. Its address can only be configured as 0 or 1, but the K2H devices can support up to 4 GbE
              ports
    simultanously.

          2. The 88E1514 does not support hardware configuration that will allow link to establish without
MDIO control. This feature is a requirement for RBL Ethernet Boot.

So, if the customer doesn't need RBL Ethernet Boot, and use only 1-2 GbE ports, he/she will have no problem to use the 88E1514 with 66AK2H12 device.

    Regards!
