How many channels of 1080P60 decode can a DM8168 process simultaneously. Thanks!

How many channels of 1080P60 decode can a DM8168 process simultaneously.

Can a HDVICP process 2 channel 1080P60 decode?  3 HDVICP to 6 channel 1080P60?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

    HDVICP is scalable in terms of resolutions and channels supported, so  one HDVICP2 module  could support 1x 1080p60 or 2x 1080p30 or 4x 720p30 or 10x SD h.264 encodes/decodes.

    3xHDVICP2 -> 3x1080p60 or 6x1080p30 etc.

    Best Regards,

    Margarita

  • Each HDVICP2 can do 1 ch 1080p60 decode.

    But it really depends on the HDVICP2 frequency, the codec and bitstream itself.

    It might be possible to decode extra bitstream w/ smaller resolution but I dont think single HDVICP2 can do 2 ch 1080p60 decode.

  • Thanks for your answer, but there is a further question:

               Basicly, we consider that the performance of 1 ch 1080p60 encoder is equal to the performance of 2 chs 1080p60 decoder, So why 1 HDVICP can encode 1 ch 1080P60, and only can decode 1ch 1080P60 but not 2chs.

               What is the root causes, is that determined by the work principle of HDVICP?

  • In DM8168's datasheet it says

    Key to the device are up to three high-definition video and imaging coprocessors (HDVICP2). Each
    coprocessor can perform a single 1080p60 H.264 encode or decode or multiple lower resolution or frame
    rate encodes and decodes.

    My understanding is HDVICP is designed for enc and dec, it is supported by the same hardware. So you can not consider it as a general purpose processor that you can simply equal the work of enc/dec based on you experience.
