OMAP5910

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP5910

Our OMAP5910 is locking up when it gets warm. It will also lock up at room temp but infrequently. Some boards are more tolerant than others but all will lock up at some point and generally produce a memory error if the processor is able (lockups include freezing, shut downs, and memory errors). This occurs on numerous boards. We have thoroughly reviewed the board and layout, reviewed the design and find some differences with recommendations for decoupling. We have made changes for this but don't see any effect. Is there any precedence for this kind of issue? What are possible causes for this?

  • The lockup problem can be induced by putting a small resistance into the VCC_Core supply line.  A non-thermally sensitive board can be made thermally sensitive by putting in a 0.1ohm resistor (and dropping the supply a little).  The more the resistance, the more sensitive it becomes.

A lockup can occur with VCC_Core at 1.572V (1.554V if measured to the lowest noise level).  The line is not noisey.  What could be at issue with VCC_Core to cause a lockup?

  • VCC_CORE in our design feeds CVDD, CVDD1, CVDD2, and CVDD3.
