AM3517 VPFE Image size

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3517

According to the TRM, the AM3517 VPFE supports 16K pixels in both horizontal and verical directions. Is this 16K total or 16K x 16K?

The VPFE controller supports the following features:

• It supports up to 16K pixels (image size) in both the horizontal and vertical directions.

  • That should be 16k x 16k as a theoretical maximum image size (i.e. the horizontal and vertical pixel counters can count up to 16k each), though keep in mind that is not a limit that is practically met, as it is a rather huge image size (256 megapixels!). The few major reasons I don't see this size of image being used in a typical application are:

    - The internal processing blocks of the image pipeline often require smaller chunks of image to work on.
    - The amount of data means that the frame rate would have to be extremely slow (though maybe ok for a digital still camera app).
    - The amount of data storage required to hold an image of this magnitude uncompressed is staggering (16 bits per pixel means a 512MB sized raw image), essentially using all external DDR memory.

  • Is this 16K pixels considered as FIFO?

What's the FIFO size inside AM3517 VPFE? I could not find in TRM?
