Universal 5V Power Supply for OMAP5912 Starter Kit (OSK5912)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP5912, TPS65010

 Dear all,

I am newbie to this forum and I am using TI's board for the first time. I am working on OMAP5912 Starter Kit, which I got from my professor. Unfortunately, the 5V universal power supply is lost and I need to get one soon to kick of my project. I had  tried using other 5V supplies which I could find , but the jack did not match. I would really appreciate that if I can get some information about the adapter and where can I purchase it from . Can I get some support from TI..

Thanks in advance.

Looking forward for replies..

Regards,

Aditya

  • I believe the official supply is one of these from Spectrum Digital (may want to verify with them, I don't use the OMAP5912 so I cannot confirm), though it is a bit expensive. If you have other Spectrum Digital boards lying around their power supplies may work as well (I use the same couple of big 5v supplies on all the TI processor boards I work with).

Alternatively you could try going to a Radio Shack with the board and seeing if you can find a DC barrel plug that will fit it, that would be cheaper but you may not find the perfect fit.

  • Thanks Bernie for your suggestion.

I did got hold of a 5V power supply which I used in FPGA board, but the jack is bigger in that, so it did not fit. I would look into some other local vendors for the same.

  • Hi Bernie,

I got into some trouble today. In my pursuit of finding a universal adapter for OSK5912 board, I was looking around, if I could find one , and accidently I plugged one adapter which exceeded the ratings of the required adapter and there was some burning smell .  I am sure I screwed up the board and I also figured out that TPS65010 is blown off and I have ordered it also from TI. Can you tell me what could be other likely damage in the board, On looking at it , I could not  find anything other than TPS65010 .

Can I get some support for this board from TI , the board was bought 2 years back. If no support from TI, is it possible to use the board again and we can get this repaired somewhere in Penn State .

    Eagerly waiting for your response.

    Thanks

It is hard to say, you can damage devices from over voltage conditions without causing visible burning or immediately obvious damage, so it is possible if you could re build the TPS65010 power supply that it would work, or that other subsystems of the board have failed and it will never boot again.

As to repairing the board you may want to ask Spectrum Digital, as they were the board manufacturer, however I am not sure if they will still be able to help you with repairs as that board is obsoleted and no longer in production. This being said, if you cannot get the board repaired you may need to migrate to a newer platform, like the OMAP35xx series.
