NOTE:

Load VPSS module, (This module configures and starts the display 0 VENC in 1080p-60 mode.) :

insmod vpss.ko

Load fbdev module :

insmod ti81xxfb.ko

Load on-chip HDMI module :

insmod ti81xxhdmi.ko

Hi ,  

Did you tried bootlogo feature under uboot.  HDMI is supported in uboot by default.

Key in 'colorbar' then you should be able to see colorbar test pattern from HDMI out.

The message of HDMI failed to read E-EDID doesnt mean there is issue on your HDMI output,  it means it fails to read EDID from the monitor connected.

I will suggest you  use bootlogo feature first to make sure that the hardware side is OK then we can move forward to check the software side.
