Unused K2E pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5K2E04

The following pins/nets are connected in the EVMK2E schematic, but are listed as not connected in the K2E part data sheet. I’m assuming these are either proprietary and/or factory debug pins, but want to double check whether these pins may have any useful functionality in the future. Should I still leave these unconnected in my design?

Pins:

AE30, K2E_EVM net SOC_LRESETNMIENZ

AF33, K2E_EVM net SOC_LRESETZ

AG33, K2E_EVM net SOC_NMIZ

K9, VPP1V8

M9, VPP1V8

AG5, SOC_RSV008 (appears to be monitored by the BMC SPI)

    Could you please point out where did you find first three pins are given as unconnected ?

    The first three pins (AE30, AF33, AG33) are not NC pins. These need to be connected as required (refer K2E EVM schematics). The other three pins (K9, M9, AG5) can be left unconnected.

    LRESETNMIENZ, LRESETZ and NMIZ are signals associated with the C66 DSP core. You must be looking at the AM5K2E data manual which does not have the C66 DSP. The AM5K2E and the 66AK2E are pin compatible devices and the EVMK2E is designed to work with both. These three pins are 'no connects' on the AM5K2E devices. The EVMK2E also included some circuitry to support internal test operations. The three remaining pins should be left unconnected for customer designs.

    My design is targeting the AM5K2E04, but due to availability we will be using the X66AK2E05XABD25 for the prototype design and build. I was told that this processor should be pin for pin compatible with the AM5K2E04, and we could power down the unused DSP cores. However, the pins listed above are used on the K2E EVM schematic (processor X66AK2E05), but are listed as no connects on the AM5K2E data sheet. I was told I could use the same pinout and design for both processors, but am not sure what I need to do with the pins that are used for one processor but not the other.

    I had replied to the earlier chain and did not see your response until after I had posted... If I am targeting my design to the AM5K2E, but am using the C66 only for my protype, can I leave these pins unconnected?

    If you are only going to use the AM5K2E than they can be left unconnected. If you plan on using the 66AK2E for initial prototyping, add a pull up resistor to each of these three signals. The pull up resistors can be left installed or removed for boards with the AM5K2E.
