OMAP5 no debug output

I'm trying to setup my OMAP5. My host environment is Ubuntu 14.04 (but I have a virtualbox with 12.04, no better success).

I'm unable to get any output from the debug usb (/dev/ttyUSB0) whether I use screen, putty or anything else.

Similarly, when using the usbboot -f tool, I hang waiting on "Waiting for device"

When I plug in the board it powers up immediately (no need to press power button) when I plug in the debug USB cable, I get a green led (regardless of whether the power is in or not).

My SYSBOOT switches are set to OFF,OFF,OFF,OFF - but I have changed those settings trying to boot from SD.

When I unplug the usb I lose my /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 files (as expected).

In short, I am totally stumped. Have I somehow got a dead board? Or am I missing something stupid?

Any help would be appreciated. I've already trawled through the documentation here:

http://downloads.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/glsdk/6_00_00_07/exports/OMAP5_GLSDK_Software_Developers_Guide.pdf

and the documentation included in the GLSDK

  • Hi Zack,
Have you also connected micro usb to the micro USB3 port? ( when sudo ./usbboot -f is used)
I suggest you to try to run the android release first.

The instructions there are much more straight forward.
