[Centaraus] Horizontal thread artifact observed on JPEG

Hi ,

Platform:   DM8127 + IPNCRDK 3.8    JPEG encode lib version is v01.00.16.00

There is horizontal thread artifact observed from some PCs.  

Artifact shown as below:  If you look at the left-down side, there is obvious horizontal thread which we think it should totally dark.  While on some PCs, there is no such issue.

And it is from the leftside of the original pic as below.  If you need the original JPEG that was not privacy masked, pls let me know.

We believe that this issue is related to the JPEG decoder, but since the decoder performs differently, we need you advise on it that if this artifact is ok, or if we have parameters in JPEG encoder that can solve this issue on all decoders?

    Hi ,

    We made some comparison between different Qp value, and find that with different Qp , sometimes the issue is observed, sometimes not.

    (The result shows, the issue is not more obvious when the Qp increase or decrease,   the issue is observed under certain Qp value)

    I am not seeing the attchment button...If you need the JPEG images w/ different Qp, I can send off-line.

    Hi Eason,

    Can you please brief more on these:

    1. What I assume is, decoder is PC based. Is my assumtion right?

    2. If you have not tried disabling privacy masking, can you encode by disbaling it?

    3. Please share the JEPG

    Thanks for help.

    1. The decoder is PC based. Correct.

    2.  The rectangle on pic is not privacy mask.  I manually add it.

    3.  I will sent through private msg.

    Hi Kumar,
    I am able to recreate the issue that ctm reported w/ CCS codec test program.
    The Codec version I use, are
    REL.500.V.MJPEG.E.IVAHD.01.00.16.01(ctm use)
    REL.500.V.MJPEG.E.IVAHD.01.00.15.01(IPNCRDK3.8)

    The issue can be seen from both codec lib.
    Qp=40, t issue is there
    Qp=50, issue is not seen

    Ctm also did test on many Qp values.

    I can share the binary I use, and all the images we encoded.
    Could you kindly add your comments on this iisue?

    Yu can use different image viewers to check the same image. The artifact can be een from some of the players/viewers.
    I think it might be related to MJPEG decoder, but my ctm can not ask end ctm to use certain decoder. If this is the case, I would like to have your advise on how to avoid getting images w/ artifacts.
