MLO for AM437x QSPI Boot

Hi,

I have a question about Linux SDK for AM437x.

I'm planning to use QSPI boot.

Q1.

Is MLO needed for QSPI boot?

My understanding is that if u-boot execute directly from QSPI flash, MLO is not needed.

But if I want to execute u-boot from DDR3, MLO is needed for initializing DDR3 I/F. Is it correct?

Q2.

Does Linux SDK provide MLO and U-boot for QSPI boot?

MLO is not needed for QSPI booting. u-boot will set up the DDR interface.

The SDK supports QSPI booting. To build u-boot for QSPI booting, do make am43xx_evm_qspiboot. I can't remember, but I think you have to make am43xx_evm_qspi, boot this MLO and u-boot from some other media, and the write the qspiboot u-boot to the QSPI flash.

There is a QSPI reference design for AM437X: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDEP0016 This interface performs as XIP, so software can be directly executed from there. See http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Core_U-Boot_User's_Guide#AM43xx_support for details.

Thank you for the reply.

Let me ask to make me sure.

Okay, I understood that U-boot will be executed directly from QSPI flash.
And I guess it will initialize DDR before copying Kernel image to DDR.

By the way, do you mean that other media(ex. SD Card) boot is needed once
for flashing U-boot to QSPI?

Either that, or some other means need to be provided for flashing the QSPI memory.
