run a FTP server on AM335x EVM

Thanks, I already saw this thread, but it didn't help me much. As I said, I can't use the tftp or tftpd functionsm from busybox, I need a FTP server, but the ftpd function isn't included in the busybox on the AM335x.

If there is a way to do this without using busybox, I'm fine with that too. I am currently trying to find source code for an FTP server, I tried this one, http://voidrealms.com/index.php?r=source/view&id=6,  for example, but there seems to be a bug in it. It says segmentation fault, after I connect to it.

Can anyone explain it to me more deeply, I would be so grateful!

Several years ago I cross-compiled a ftp server called something like Pure-FTPd. Google around for the source. It was the easiest to cross-compile. To build with a cross-compiler named arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc,

CC=arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc ./configure --host=arm-linux-gnueabihf

make

Thanks Steve! I downloaded it from here ftp://ftp.pureftpd.org/pub/pure-ftpd/releases/ and chose the pure-ftpd-1.0.36.tar.gz.  I untarred it in my Virtual Box for xUbuntu and in the pure-ftpd folder I did like you suggested

CC=arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc

./configure --host=arm-linux-gnueabihf

make

seems to have worked, as I didn't get any errors. But how do I get this server up and running on my AM335x? As I am quite a newbie to all this stuff, it doesn't come easily to me. Your help will be much appreciated!

Hi, thanks for your help, though I can't get it to work. 

When copying the binary to the AM335x and executing it, I get 

root@am335x-evm:~/app# ./pure-ftpd 
-sh: ./pure-ftpd: cannot execute binary file

and when executing it on normal ubuntu, where I compiled it, I get 

~/Share/pure-ftpd-1.0.36/src$ ./pure-ftpd

Unable to start a standalone server: Permission denied

so it seems to me, the cross-compiling didn't work. Is there something else I have to do to compile it correctly? 

Ok, I realised I forgot to source the environment-setup, as explained in the Hands on with QT Tutorial (source /home/sitara/ti-sdk-<machine>-<sdk version>/linux-devkit/environment-setup). Now the binary seems to be ok. Thanks for your help! Now I just need to get pure-ftpd running.
