Cannot connect to C6748 on OMAP 138 EVM

I have an OMAP 138 EVM Beta Kit with the C6748 SOM installed. When I plug in the USB cable (yes I'm plugging into the correct USB port), Windows identifies the hardware as dual RS232. I have tried this with the S7 dip switches all off and with S7 - 5 and 8 ON.

I have a second OMAP138 EVM board that is identified correctly as XDS100. I have rebooted the PC, power cycled the board, and I get the same result.

What could the issue be?

I've seen similar issues in pre-production boards where the firmware of the embedded emulator is either empty or has errors, therefore the Windows USB driver couldn't recognize it properly. However I don't recall all details on how to reprogram it, therefore I will move it to the OMAP forum since people there may have additional ideas on this.

Hi John,

There is a lot of information in the wiki. Please look at:

Windows is recognizing the XDS100 as "Dual RS232 USB Serial Bridge" instead of the TI XDS100 JTAG emulator.

The same principle applies for the C2000, you can use for you OMAP-L138 EVM. Please also look at:

We returned the board. Haven't had a problem with replacements.
