Question about power supply of AM437x

Guru 15520 points

Hi,

I have questions about AM437x.

1.On AM437x GP EVM and IDK, AM437x power supply pins are connected to the power supply via ferrite beads.

Is ferrite beads indispensable to AM437x power supply pin?

2.If ferrite beads are necessary, are there a recommended connection method and layout?

3.AM437x have a pin(vpp_mpu_mon) for voltage monitoring.

From AM437x datasheet,I understand that connecting the vpp_mpu_mon and  PMIC Feddback pin will allow the voltage monitoring.

And if voltage monitoring is not necessary, vpp_mpu_mon should be connected to  power source of VDD_MPU.

But in AM437x GP EVM and IDK, vpp_mpu_mon is connected to TP(test pin).

What is the purpose to connect vpp_mpu_mon and TP?

best regards,

g.f.

Ferrite beads are not placed on all power supplies. I suggest you follow the GP EVM schematics. Especially PLL power supplies have stricter power supply requirements (section 5.12.2.1.1 from AM437X Datasheet Rev.A).

You can download GP EVM PCB file from here: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sprr196 and use as reference.

These are evaluation boards, not final customer designs. Test points have been provided wherever it was decided it's necessary.
