hi all,

i am using my custom board with DM3725. we did SD card booting it works fine. But now we are going to use standard SD Card (SWISSBIT). before we used Kingstone SD card. now with Swissbit SD card board was not booting. same code what we used before(with kingstone sd card). we dont know what is the difference between those two. please help me.

but we observed one thing that MMC1_CLK is 24Mhz when we used kingstone, if we use swissbit it is 12Mhz only

hi,

the above mentioned MMC1_CLK is correct only that clock difference is because of my firmware only. But that swissbit sd card is not detecting in my custom board and also in beagleboard-xm also. so i tried with another swissbit sd card that is also in same position. i don't know why swissbit sd card is not working. we are using swiss bit MLC class 6 4GB sd card. please anyone answer my question.. why swissbit mlc, class 6, 4GB sd card is not detecting in beagleboard-xm?

Does u-boot recognize the swissbit card? I'm trying to find a way for you to enable mmc driver debug to see what could be failing. I you can get to booting a kernel, you could configure the kernel and enable mmc debug. That would show which commands are failing.

It dodn't gave anu serial port messages with swissbit sd card gives just 00 is comming. I tried wih my custom board by changing the boot code added toggle io line test code at starting of the boot code,with kingstone sd card it was working. With swissbit this line toggling also not working. I thought custom board didn't read the swissbit sd card.

Yes, board recognizes the swissbit SD card and this MMC1_CLK is shows 12MHz.If SD card is not recognizes MMC1_CLK should be 400kHz so sd card is recognizing but didn't execute signle instruction also.Is swissbit sd card reading is something different than other cards?

formatted the swissbit sd card in mobile and PC also. sd card was in same sate ...

I have ordered a swissbit SD Card and it should arrive next week. That should help me in debugging this.

We are debugging this. It appears that MLO/u-boot/Linux have no problems with this card. Only our boot ROM has a problem.

means.. you are saying MLO file is apears in SD card but didn't execute MLO file in DM37xx right? is it possible to work with swissbit sd card and DM3725?

The boot ROM has an issue and will not boot the card. It seems to hang when reading one of the card's registers. So you can not boot from the card.

offoo.. But all the SD cards have almost same features right? with other cards its working, why this swissbit card can't? is there any possible way to work with this card?? why i am asking this much pressure is client actually brought almost 50 swissbit sd cards without intimating to us. Now they asking why swissbit standard sd card is not booting? thats why i am asking and i also tried in many ways but no results... anyways thanks for your quick response steve K

Hi Paddu,

I don't think there will be any way around this issue. There are several specifications with regard to response times which cards have to meet based on the SD card specification, and it is likely that this particular manufacturer is out of spec for certain command response times. We have noticed during the identify phase that if we introduce delays with a debugger that the card boots up fine. Since the ROM code is fixed, there is no way in a real environment to introduce these delays.

My suggestion is that you inform the customer to steer clear of this manufacturer and stick with Kingston or others. We have not seen this issue with other manufacturers.

Padmaja, we did some investigation on this, and it appears that there is an issue in the ROM during the Identify stage while trying to boot from these SD cards. This issue also appears in AM335x, AM437x, and AM572x (all have similar code for MMC Identify). These cards are apparently taking longer than normal to respond to certain commands during the Identify stage. At this point, i would not recommend using any cards from this manufacturer.

Just an update, we have narrowed down the issue to the s-40 and s-40u uSD families of cards from Swissbit which have certain issues which that prevent them from booting on the processors mentioned above. The s-300u and s-200u families of uSD do not have this issue, and boot fine.
