It is my understanding the OMAP 35XX only supports a parallel camera sensor interface.
Therefor are the CSI2_XXX pins useless for anything other then GPIO?

David,
Your understanding is correct. OMAP35xx supports only parallel cameral interface (sync & ITU modes) and these pins have GPIO functionality (gpio 112 - gpio 115) as shown in DataManual.
That's been my belief, but the following technical manual suggest otherwise. It goes into great detail about the CSI2 interface.
Please reference Table 1.3 of Section 1.5.1 of OMAP35x TRM (spruf98e.pdf) which illustrates that CSI2 interface is not supported for OMAP3530/25/15/05.
So it's not just the CSI2, but it also lacks the following
All the functions under the CCDC Raw Image Processing
All the functions under the Preview Module with exception to the Resizer
All the functions under the Statistics Collection
It lacks so much I think you guys should have rewritten the Camera ISP Chapter specifically for it.
Don't believe that to be true. The serial interface is removed (CSI2 etc.).
But my understanding is CCDC raw, preview and Stat is still there.
But, none of those things are checked in Table 1.3 of Section 1.5.1 of OMAP35x TRM (spruf98e.pdf).
Which I find odd because I've never heard of those things not being in the 3530. It could be that nobody uses those things, but the Stat seems like a really good feature.
I'm a little concerned about that table because I was only aware of the OMAP35XX missing the CSI1, CSI2 and DSI.
Those I know aren't there because they are not in the Multiplexing chart. So I couldn't even make the mistake of thinking they were there.
The other stuff on that chart I could easily assume were there (like the histogram) because there is no mention of them missing in the ISP chapter. In fact I think the table is wrong because I can't see how the device would even operate without some of those.
I agree, I also think the table was just not filled out correctly. It would be nice to get confirmation from TI though.
There still seems to be a lot of left over baggage in the documentation from the 34XX (which I assume it was created from) which is not correct when applied to the 35XX, especially around the camera module interface.
Jason and Jason,
We are currently updating OMAP35xx DM to match Table 1.3 of Section 1.5.1 of OMAP35x TRM (spruf98e.pdf) so that we have consistency across our documentation.
Is Table 1.3 in Section 1.5.1 of the OMAP35x TRM Correct?
The OMAP35X really doesn't have any of that stuff. Like the Statistics Collection and the various things under the previewer?
Note - The TRM was rev'd and is now spruf98f.pdf
Jason,
Spruf98f.pdf is latest OMAP35xx TRM and Table 1.3 of Section 1.5.1 is correct and statistic collection and previewer functionality is not supported in OMAP35xx and our DM is being uppated to reflect that as previously mentioned.
You guys are going to have to update more than that.
Take this documentation for example
http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/sprab91/sprab91.pdf
On Page 4
"Camera I/F with CCD controller and Image-pipe (Preview, Resize,
Statistics"
I'm sure that page is on a lot of documentation.
I do like the fact that you guys added this blurb to first page in Chapter 12 of the OMAP35xx TRM
"NOTE: This chapter provides information about all modules and features in the high-tier device.
See Section 1.5, AM35xx Family, to check availability of modules and features."
With the exception that it says Section 1.5, AM35xx Family when it should say OMAP35xx family.
