Good starting point for DVEVM using windows and CCS?

Hi all,

Actually I'm new to Davinci dm6446. I have DVEVM and I read the getting started guide and some other articles, wikis and forums. But I'm totally lost.

I have a lot of experience in C2000 , and I used them in different applications using CCS and XDS510 USB plus emulator, but now I want to transfer to davinci technology.

The question is:

1- What are the different ways for using  dm6446, and what is the best among all.(I read about different scenarios  linux,WinCE,DSP/Bios)

2- How can I configure DVEVM from windows host and debug through code composer studio creating my own program and using libraries, the same way as C2000.

3- Why we have to use Codec engine,XDC, XDIAS, XDM and all of these things

4- What if I want to make my own board using dm6446 processor, how can I configure it.

these are the main questions that may put me on the road for using Davinci.

Thanks for the help,

Regards,

  • 1. Majority of the customers use Linux, some use WinCE.

    2. See http://c6000.spectrumdigital.com/davincievm/revf/ for CCS related.

    3. I suggest you read the user guides. For example, if you have a hard time fining the XDC UG, google "xdc ti". Spend some time reading, and you will know why you might want to use it. You don't have to use them though. For example, if you don't decode/encode data any all, you don't  have to use codec engine.

    4. I don't know what you mean here. The above link has our EVM schematic for your reference. Please spend some time reading our device datasheet.
