Hi,

I am planning to use OMAP L137 Processor for Smart Energy Gateway Application,as we have already developed controller platform using OMAP L137.

In the TI website it is shown that Sitara Processor AM335x is right solution for smart energy gateway/home automation applications.

Is there any limitations/problems if i choose OMAP L137 for Smart Energy gateway/home automation purpose?

Hi Ramesh,
In my opinion, AM335x is best choice and it has lot of latest features CAN, high operating speed 1GHz, DDR3 memory, etc., .

Do you want to do any DSP processing on your design ?
If no, then you can also choose AM1808 (ARM processor only )

OMAPL13x -> ARM+DSP cores.

Instead of OMAPL137, you can also consider OMAPL138 (ARM boot master), its same like OMAPL137 (DSP boot master)

Also it depends on your project requirement.

Thanks so much for your replies for my queries.I have gone through the link.But still
i want to clarify about the following.

Is it possible to realise the Demand response programs/algorithms using AM335x processor?

AM335x is only suitable for meeting the advanced communication features?

Is there any application notes/example work reported for smart building/home automation
using AM335x ?

What are the highlighted features in AM335X compared to OMAPL137?

Is OMAPL137 a perfect choice for Home automation?because we have already developed working version of the
control hardware using OMAP L137 for other applications.

Kindly help me in choosing the right processor.

Pls note down our requirements.

- Controlling(ON/OFF) the Home appliances through Zigbee communication
- Executing Demand side management algorithms by reading smart grid messages

Hi Ramesh,

AM335x is the TI's latest processor and we have reference design too so I hope you could get good documents and sw as well.

In my opinion, if we use the latest processors, you could get support for the many years with latest features/updates etc.,

Hi Ramesh,

You may need to contact your local TI FAE to get exact gateway's project BSP.

But you would get BSP with direct TI download link for other EVMs like BBB, AM335x EVMSK etc.,
