DM365 Questions

I have a customer that has the following questions.  Thanks for any help you all can provide.

1)    1)    ‘Overlay’ is not found in the 365 spec, so the overlay chip you mentioned was a solution. But this afternoon Scott told me the 365 has a hardware On Screen Display circuit which is the overlay feature.

2)      2)  Instead of FireWire I much preferred to use USB 2.0 high-speed & high-power between the camera and MAC Mini. But a requirement that “you have to be able to run down to Radio Shack” and get the cables killed that. Radio Shack doesn’t carry a unique high-power USB cable.

3)     3)   I need to get from the 365’s DMA to FireWire 800 (per Marketing spec) or 400 per what’s actually needed

a.       Not many players in the FireWire 800 field. The small FireWire interfaces that are available use ASICs.

b.      I’ll incorporate the Power Over FireWire circuitry you recommended – the current limiter and low-drop ORing switch controller

  • John,

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see any actual questions here.. just random statements.  Do you have an actual question you'd like to ask?

  • I don't really understand the post either, as I see no questions, but I can make a couple of comments.

    1. The DM365 does have an OSD peripheral built into the VPBE, so it can do overlay internally, if you describe further what you need to do we can tell you if it will suit your needs.

    2. The DM365 does have USB 2.0 on chip and not Firewire, so using USB would be a good idea if possible, I am not sure about the 'high power' aspect you refer to or how a Mac Mini is involved.

    3. If you do need Firewire, TI actually carries some IEEE 1394 devices (Firewire is an Apple term, 1394 is the standard used) shown here. I don't believe we have any software or hardware references for these to be implemented on a DM365 however.
