Hi,

i have recently entered the world of embedded systems and for a project I have to use the PRU on board CPU AM3359. The PRU must then communicate with the device SPI1.
Can you explain me step by step how to enable and configure the PRU in my kernel 3.12?

Hi Fabio,

Check the following wiki article, step-by-step guide for enabling pru support in SDK7.0 (kernel 3.12):

Also the following e2e thread should give additional info for installing the PRU package in your kernel:

Hi Yordan,

i have installed CCS6 and Linux EZ Software Development Kit (EZSDK). I have problem to install PRU Software Support Package. When i run installation return this error:

Segmentation fault (core dump created)

I have ubuntu:

Linux mas016 3.13.0-45-generic #74-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 13 19:36:28 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

How can i resolve the problem ?

Could you please clarify, this segmentation fault occurs on your host machine, when you execute
./pru-addon-v1.0-Linux-x86-Install.bin
right?

I see you are using 64-bit Ubuntu. Have you installed the needed packages for 64-bit support (processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Sitara_Linux_SDK_64_Bit_Ubuntu_Support) before running the pru installer bin?

Which version of EZSDK are you using? Note that PRU package is available only for the older LINUXEZSDK-AM335X v7.0: www.ti.com/.../pru-swpkg

Yordan,

i have already installed the packages for 64-bit in my pc. I have installed LINUXEZSDK-AM335X v8.0. How can i uninstall the LINUXEZSDK-AM335X v8.0 ?

Fabio,

You just have to delete the ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00 folder. Supposed it is in your home directory, you just need to execute:

rm -r ~/ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00

i have remove ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00. Now i have download ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00 but when run ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00 return me: Segmentation fault (core dump created)

Hi Fabio,

I tested this on my side both both ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin & after that the PRU addon installer ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin work as expected.
No errors during installation.

I use 64bit Ubuntu 12.04:
x0155517@mms:~$ uname -a
Linux mms 3.2.0-76-generic #111-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 13 22:16:09 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Not sure what could be the problem... can you send the output of uname -a on your machine?

Could you recheck if your host is setup according to the Software developers guide: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Sitara_Linux_Software_Developer%E2%80%99s_Guide

Hi,

I am not quite sure what is wrong with your setup... it should be ok.

Can you run the installer with --debug option ?

If you use ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin --help you will see the option:

--debuglevel <debuglevel> Debug information level of verbosity

Default: 2

Allowed: 0 1 2 3 4

Try running ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin --debuglevel 3 (or 4) to see if any additional messages, besides the segmentation fault will appear.

Hi,

i run ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-07.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin --debuglevel 4 but i don't see message or error. I see segmentation fault.

I doubt Fabio is still working on this since the thread is a couple months old, but in case others come across it...

I was having what sounds like the exact same problem: segmentation faults trying to install v7 SDK and PRU-SWPKG. Not exactly sure of the root cause, but the seg fault seemed to be related to bringing up the GUI. I ran both programs with the `--mode text` command line option and successfully installed them using text prompts.
