On the C6748 LCD controller. Is it possible to use LIDD mode outputting 8 bits at a time? I.e. in the frame buffer each pixel is 16 bits (565) and these need to be output 2 x 8bit transfers per pixel.

Tommy,
Thanks, row 2 in the table, though we are not using a "character display". It says "data bus length defined by instruction", what instruction does this refer to?
In rows 3 & 4 of the table (16 bit transfer) it refers to LCD_D[7:0] and DATA[7:0]. I assume it really means LCD_D[15:0] and DATA[15:0]?

Roger,
We're still looking into this. My team does not have access to an LCD LIDD expert so we'll have to try some experiments. If you have an LCD display in mind already, the LCD manufacturer might be able to get you an answer quicker.
