RGMII Termination

Looking through the data sheets and app notes for the C6472, I do not see any mention of whether or not there is internal termination for RGMII. Most PHYs have both input parallel and output series termination. I have seen processors to have one or the other, none, or both. What does the C6472 have?

The only info I could find was that the Hardware Design Guide requires external series resistors on the outputs. This conflicts with the EMAC Implementation Guide which shows a block diagram that does not include the series resistors. I do not see anything mentioned in the datasheet about termination for RGMII.

  • The RGMII interface in the C6472 does not contain any internal termination, neither parallel or series.  As stated in the Hardware Design Guide external series resistors are required on the outputs.  The figure in the EMAC Implementation Guide shows a representative connection diagram more on the level of a block diagram.  It was intended to illustrate which pins on the C6472 would be connected to an RGMII PHY and was not intended as a schematic level connection diagram.
