TIRTOS-SSL-SRC:: License, royalties, GPL, demo availability??

TIRTOS-SSL-SRC
SSL/TLS protocols and ciphers for TI-RTOS

         Questions:

  • Given the cost  of TIRTOS-SSL-SRC, is it a one time fee and free to use as many times as a customer likes?
  • What is the license agreement?
  • Is there any demo/ eval kit a customer can see it run on?
  • Any royalties?
  • Any GPL issues?
  • Would the customer get the source code?

Thanks,

  • Michael:

You can get the SSL product in two ways:

    1. A free GPL version that you can use within the constraints of the GPL license.

    2. A commercial version that comes under a TI license. This license obviously removes you from having to ship your product's source code (the main issue with GPL). The commercial version (that you can buy on the TI store) does not charge royalties and does include source code. The one important point to understand about the license is that it is a "per-product" license that is usable with just one product. You can ship that product in unlimited quantities at no extra charge. However, if you then want to make a different product, you would need to buy another license. You can buy "product-line" or "unlimited product" licenses but these only make sense if you are doing at least 5-6 different products.

For instructions on how to get the GPL version so you can do an evaluation, go to: processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php
