How to port a driver developed for Arago to another distro (Angstrom, Ubuntu, Debian etc)?

Hi,

I have developed an audio driver for beaglebone following the step by step instruction of the tutorial Sitara Linux SDK Audio DAC Example.

If I want to port this driver from Arago to another distro (Angstrom, Ubuntu, Debian etc.) I have to do all the work again in these distros and rebuild their kernells or there is an easier way?

I do not have much knowledge about linux so I need a basic orientation!

I hope you don't want to rebuild or porting unless you change the kernel version and not distribution (filesystem)

Hi, Titus,

In the tutorial, it´s said that the alsa audio support can be built as a module. What files(and paths) I need to install the module in another distro and how I install it?

Hi Levy ,
Do a "make modules_install" from kernel directory with new distro location.

make modules_install INSTALL_MOD_PATH=<new distro location>

Have a try and let us update.

Hi, Titus,

I was doing a little research and I think that what I need is to generate a LKM - Loadable Kernel Module from the audio driver developed. What do you think? Can you give me some guidance, a starting point?

You can select audio driver as a module (M option) from linux source through "make menuconfig"
If it is own developed driver then you may need to build the driver with "make modules"
Ex:
Makefile should be some what like this.
obj-m += audio.o

make modules ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=<arm toolchain> -C <linux source tree> M=`pwd`
