AIF2 Fast CM Usage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCI6638K2K

Hi,

We have 4 Fast CM channels for AIf2 and any of them can be assigned into one of the 6 links. I have several questions about this topic.

1.  Does any link support more than one Fast CM channel?

2.  There are maximum 4 Fast CM channels, so we have to use at most 4 Links for transmission. Is that correct?

3. How can setup chain topology for multiple radio remote units in serial way (using CPRI v4.1)? How can we send IQ blocks/CW to specific RRU in that chain? Do you have any example test for chain topology or any detail documents other than AIF2 UG?

Thanks,

Mustafa

  • Hi,
I am working with experts to answers this post. Thank you for your patience.
  • Hi,

While I wait previous post, I would like to ask another one about the same issue.

How can we use Vendor Specific region in basic frame in CPRI? We can only send control data over Fast C&M region in basic frame.

    Thanks,
    Mustafa
  • Vendor Specific question is self solved. Just configure required region by using "pPeLinkSetup->bEnableCpriCw" parameter for both PD and PE sides.

  • Hi Mistafa,
Thank you for the update and patience. I am working with experts to answer rest of the queries.

  • Hi,

I have another issue. I am able to run the first fast cm channel over a link. That is, both tx and rx sides of the control ch are working and I can send/receive control data over first control stream. however, when I want to add another control ch into that link, the second ch does not work. AIF2 does not pop desc from the tx queue although rx flow and tx ch have successfully configured for that second ch.

Let me know if you have any idea about this issue.

    Thanks,
    Mustafa
  • Hello,

Yes, you should be able to have vendor specific and fast c&m control packets running simultaneously on the same CPRI link.

Can you please describe how your system looks like?

Related to CPRI fast c&m, I'd like to point you to the following errata and application notes:

    - Usage Note 30 (AIF2 CPRI FastC&M Restrictions and Usage Note): www.ti.com/.../sprz331g.pdf

  • Hi Seb,

    Thanks for reply.

it is TCI6638K2K. I have 2 setups. The first one is loopback ( SD TX connected to RX of the same SD module) and the other is connected to CPRI test analyzer to see the content of the BF.

I am able to send vendor specific and fast cm packets over control ch 0 and I am trying to send multiple control ch on the same link or multiple links by setting "pPdLinkSetup[0].CpriCwChannel". However I can run one control ch only and AIF2 does not pop desc from its own dedicated input queues for other control streams.

For the CPRI topologies, my previous question is still open as: How we can setup chain topology for multiple radio remote units in serial way (using CPRI v4.1)? How can we send IQ blocks/CW to specific RRU in that chain? Do you have any example test for chain topology or any detail documents other than AIF2 UG?

    Thanks,
    Mustafa
  • Hi

First question, using multiple control stream on the same link, is self-solved.
Let us know if you have any answer for the second question.

    Thanks,
    Mustafa
  • Hi,

Nice to see you were able to get 2 cpri control sub-streams up and running with your setup.

Concerning the question on a serial chain of remote radio units, do you intend to have a tci6638k2k in each radio unit, or only one tci6638k2k in the base-band unit talking to multiple radio units?

In the first case, each tci6638k2k is able to terminate and re-transmit each control sub-stream using the RF module in AIF2. SW would need to be involve to sort out whether the control messages are targeted to a particular radio unit.

In the second case, you'd need to have a "CPRI switch" in the remote radio unit.
