Hi,

I have a problem with AM437x SD boot.

We are testing SD boot and in the following SD card it will boot or not boot.

It seems like the affinity of the SD card vendor.

1. Vendor:Transcend 8GB class4 HC -> It will not boot.

2. Vendor:Transcend 2GB -> It will not boot.

3. Vendor:SanDisk Ultra 8GB HC-I -> It will boot successfully.

I want to know standard specification of SD card which AM437x supports in an SD boot?

I will forward this to the factory team. Is this the GP EVM or a custom board? How do you prepare the SD card? Which SDK do you use? Please post this information to save time.

g.f. is my co-worker, so I am posting on behalf of g.f.

【Operating environment】

- Both "Custom board" and "GP EVM; TMDXEVM437X"

- LINUXEZSDK-AM437X:

- prepared these SD cards by "create-sdcard.sh" in SDK.

Here are the operating conditions.

1. When it does not boot we do not see any messages.

2. Boot error counters at 40337DE0h～40337DECh show "0x00000006"
and it is incremented by 1 after a short time.

3. SYSBOOT[4:0] is "01100b（MMC0)"

4. MLO, u-boot.img, filesystem, partitions in non-boot SD card are correct.

Could you please reply the standard specification of SD card which AM437x supports in an SD boot?

The operating environment is as Kanae-san mentioned.
Is there any information about supported and unsupported SD card?

For the two failing cards, can you give me the exact name on the card? Any model number? We would like to get the exact same cards for testing. Thank you.

2. Vendor:Transcend
microSD 2GB (using adapter)

Did the Transcend card ever work (ie, did they work for a little while and then start failing)? Or did they fail right out of the box? When they fail, do you see anything on the console?

Sorry for the delay.
When they try booting from Transcend SD card, it never works and nothing on the console.

We have received these Transcend cards and cannot reproduce the issue. Is it possible you have received a batch of bad cards? Have you tried multiple cards?

On the EVM, can you connect with JTAG and report back what the PC is? I would suggest you do this several times to see if it the PC is around the same value each time.

Also can you dump the trace vectors 0x40338E40-0x40338E50

Is this PG1.1 or PG1.2 version of silicon?

Actually this problem occured at my customer.
So, I need to ask them about the PC and the dump data of tracing data.

By the way, they are using PG1.2 now.

Hi James,

I'm sorry for the delay.

They have same two SD cards, so that customer tried with those 2 Transcend SD Cards.

But the problem(boot unsuccessfully) will occur in those 2 SD cards.

We got dump data of Tracing vector and PC value.

Hi g.f., it seems that I can only conclude that you have a couple of bad Transcend cards. The tracing vectors and the PC values you show indicate that the ROM is reading corrupt data from the card.

You can try to run the script one last time on these cards. Ensure that you allow the script to format the card, and then copy MLO and u-boot onto the card.

Thank you for the reply and I'm sorry for the delay.

I bought new Transcend microSDHC(Class 4, 8GB) which is the same card I already tested.
But SD boot failed. No message was displayed to the TeraTerm.

So, I don't think that I have bad microSD cards.

I will try to run the script one last time.
But I'd like to try on the same way perfectly with the way you tried.
So, can you tell me which formatter did you used to format the Transcend microSDHC
and how you copy the MLO, and u-boot to the card?

By the way, which Transcend microSD did you tested?
Did you use the attached jpg's microSD?
