ICMP ping long response problem

Hi All,

my DUT using processor AM335x, and Linux "linux-3.2-psp04.06.00.07.sdk".

when I do a direct LAN connection, PC to the DUT with static IP, and do a continuous IP address ping from PC, the response time is not consistent, sometimes is less than 1ms which is good, and sometimes is up to 500ms response time.

when I do connect my DUT to company/enterprise network using static IP, the response time is consistent, which is equal or less than 1ms.

first I thought it was my PC problem, I took a device to do direct connection to my PC, the ping result seen fine, which is equal or less than 1ms.

question:

1. does the direct connection to PC suppose to be faster than connect to enterprise network ?

2. is it a Linux network stack related problem?

Thanks & Regards

Keldy

  • Hi Keldy,

    1. The direct connection between the DUT and the PC should be the fastest connection but if the enterprise network is not overloaded or extremely large the lag should be negligible.
    2. I had not observe such problem in the Linux network stack.
