VID/PID

We have final designs for three of the four PCBs, and one only needs the 5V supply to be revised for greater current, and then we're done  with hardware. At the moment, the product design is in the firmware development stage and we're using the Spectrum Digital VID/PID.

Would TI supply VID/PID?

Customer is working on a VC5506-based product?

  • Thanks, John.

In case anyone needs clarification, we are planning to ship a product this year, based on the C5506, but we certainly will not be manufacturing tens of thousands in total units, so the cost of an exclusive VID is prohibitive.  Other vendors like Microchip have a customer program where a single PID can be obtained for smaller companies who can accept working under another company's VID.  However, since the C5506 is able to handle all of the USB and other CPU needs of this product, there is no other chip on the board, and the only choice seems to be Texas Instruments.  We understand that other product lines from TI have similar PID programs for USB chips used by small companies like ours, but have heard that the C55x equivalent is still in the works.  Hopefully, an update on this newer program is imminent.

We have not approached Spectrum Digital for a PID since we have not purchased any of their products. The experimental VID/PID comes from Spectrum Digital example source code, and we certainly cannot ship with those values.

  • Hello John,

I believe you r working with our sales rep already. I'm the product line mktg mgr for the c5000 family and will follow up through the sales rep.

  • We still have not heard anything - not even a confirmation that we're queued up.

Can you tell me whether such a program exists or is in the process of being started?  I still do not know whether we are waiting for an entire new program to be created, or if we're just waiting for our spot in line to come up.  At this point, any feedback at all would be helpful.  So far, the response has been a consistent "we're looking into it" - and that's been going on for a solid six months with nothing new.  If a private response is more appropriate than a followup on this forum, then that's acceptable, so long as we hear something conclusive.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

We would like to obtain one PID / VID combination too. Your sales representative refer us to usb.org. I have found there the possibility to get unique VID with many PIDs but it is very expensive. We want 1 maybe 2 PIDs only. Could you advise me how to get one PID / VID combination?

  • We had a change of management recently.

Please allow me to understand what you need.

You have designed your own product board with TI's C5506 DSP. You want to use TI's Vendor ID VID) as in the C5506 but a new unique Product ID (PID) for your board. You are thinking about 2 PIDs are enough. Correct?

    Regards.

  • Yes, Steve. Except the DSP type: we use C5505, not C5506. And we plan new design with C6748 DSP. Could you provide to us unique PIDs?

  • Jiri,

We can provide an unique DEVICE ID as a custom C5505 part for customer with an NRE.

But we do not believe an unique DEVICE ID is what you need. You want a PRODUCT ID which is different than DEVICE ID. Please confirm.

If you have similar engagement with other TI products, please provide detail information.

    Regards.

  • I am not sure what is Device ID. We need unique combination of Vendor ID and Product ID for our new device with C5505 DSP. Can we use TI's Vendor ID? And could you provide Product ID from your range for us?

This is our first USB device with TI's processor. We have no engagement with other TI products.

    Regards.

  • Jiri,

With further investigation, we concluded that the VID and PID are hard coded. We cannot support this request.

    Regards.
