deinterlacer with same frame-rate in input&output

Guru 20755 points

Hello,

I would like to ask about deinterlacer:

Does anyone knows what it means if input and output rate is configured the same value in deinterlacer, which is supposed to work in deintralce mode (interlace->progressive).

I have an issue where fast camera movements are displayed in jumps in the display, so on changing parameters, I notices that when dei input frame rate is configured same value as output frame rate, then the behaviour is much better,

Regards,

Ran

  • The frame rate of input is not for conversion from interlaced to progressive or the otherway. It is for dropping the input/output frames to get the required frame rate at input/output. If you dont want to drop it, keep the frame rate same for input and output.

  • Hi Brijesh,

Thanks for the answer, But I don't fully understand this:

If both input&output frame-rate is 60fps, does it mean that the progressive output is 60fps ?
How can that be (60fps input is interlaced) ?

    Regards,

    Ran

  • Hi Ran,
Conversion from Interleaced to progressive or other way is controlled using different create time parameters.
Frame rate parameters are just used for frame dropping, like for the 60 inputs frames/fields, how many frames/fields will be the output?

  • Hi Brijesh,

Thank you very much for the time.

I understand that dropping is not done if both input and output frame is the same, and that configuring dei mode is done using a different parameter.

The question I trying to ask in this thread, is what the difference in dei video frame output between configuration #1 and configuration #2:

    configuration #1:
    dei.input frame rate = 60
    dei.output frame rate = 60
dei mode = interlace to pregressive

    configuration #2:
    dei.input frame rate = 60
    dei.output frame rate = 30
dei mode = interlace to pregressive

I know that video format output of DEI  in configuration #2 is: 30 fps progressive.

What will be  DEI video format output for in configuration #1 , i.e. Is it 30fps progressive/60fps progressive/something else ?

    Thank you,

    Ran

  • Hi Brijesh,

    I think I understand now.
If I do no drop , then I should expect it to be 60fps progressive , Right ? I was somehow believed that for conversion of progressive from interlaced there should always be divide in 2 by frame-rate, but I understand now that probably that assumption is wrong, and there are several method for onversion interlaced->progressive.
Therefore, if dei output rate is 60fps, it probably make sense now that the video is more robust to fast camera movements. I wander why this is not the default  setting for  the demo.

    Thanks,
    Ran

  • Hi Ran,

Yes, if your input is 60 fields(if DEI is enabled) or frames(if DEI is bypassed), you get 60fps progressive output.
