Camera Selection for TMDXLCD6748 and OMAPL138

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138

To whom it may concern,

   We plan to work with:

  1. TMDXLCDK6748 and USB2.0 XDS510 TI DSP JTAG Emulator Programmer, and
  2. OMAPL138 and USB2.0 XDS510 TI DSP JTAG Emulator Programmer

Regarding cameras, Leopard Imaging has many options where the IP Cameras get my attention.

However in a couple of TI E2E forums people had troubles with: (i) IP Camera AR0331 and (ii) IPCamera M024DUAL HD Dual Camera modules.

   I have the following questions:

  • Which IP camera would you recommend that includes a program example for driving the camera? The resolution that we are using is 480x640.
  • Which cameras for composite video would you recommend? Is there available program examples for driving the composite cams?
  • What are the advantages of the IP Camera?
  • In addition to IP Camera and Composite Video, are there other options that we should consider?

power consumption is a parameter to be minimized.

   Thanks, regards

  • Hi,

Which cameras for composite video would you recommend? Is there available program examples for driving the composite cams?

I've used this composite camera on OMAPL138/C6748 LCDK boards and got working, also we have "facedetect example" code to test.
It would stream the video and detect the face from the video stream data and (rectangular face detected) output displayed on VGA monitor.

  • Hi Titusrathinaraj,

       Thanks for the information.

I wonder, do you have any recommendation regarding to the IP Camera (and code examples)?

       Regards,

       - F. Maldonado.

  • Hi,

Please refer to www.ti.com/ipcamera for the solutions optimized for IPCameras. If you are looking for a DaVinci processor with an itnegrated ethernet port and DSP, then I suggest the DM8127 IPCamera reference design.

The DM8127 processor inside the TMDSIPCAM8127J3 IPCamera has an onboard 750MHz DSP and 1GHz Cortex A8. The application in the reference design will take care of compressing the video as H.264 and sent out as RTSP packets that a standard video player like VLC would understand.

Please work with your local TI sales person or distributor for more details about the product. I would recommend you to contact VsVc BU in TI to discuss the possible options. We have a big portfolio of devices and i am sure one of them would suit your needs.

  • Hi Sivaraj K,

    We will work with:

    • TMDXLCDK6748 and USB2.0 XDS510 TI DSP JTAG Emulator Programmer, and
    • OMAPL138 and USB2.0 XDS510 TI DSP JTAG Emulator Programmer

    Are those DaVinci processors?

    Regards,

    - F. Maldonado

  • Hi,

No, they are not davinci processors . OMAPl138 and C6748 are C6000 power optimized DSP processors.

    Thanks & regards,

    Sivaraj K

  • Hello Sivaraj

On May 8, it was suggested to use the DM8127 IP Camera for DaVinci processors. I am not going to use DaVinci processors, as stated in the last communication through this forum.

       My questions are:

    • Which IP Camera would you recommend for the TMDXLCDK6748 that also includes code examples?
    • Which IP Camera would you recommend for the OMAPL138 that also includes code examples?

       Thanks. Regards,
