Sirona is looking for help with the ethernet data rate on the AM335x processor

All,

My name is John Russo. I am the FAE with the Long Island branch of Avnet. My customer (Sirona/Schick Technologies), is looking for help increasing the ethernet data rate on the AM335x processor.

According to the customer, the maximum ethernet data rate is limited by the DMA mode using GPMC bus that interfaces to their image memory. Analysis suggests that the problem can be resolved in two ways:

1. Having Burst mode DMA mode

2. Increasing the size of data transfer per DMA transfer (driver is limited to transfer of 64Kbytes per DMA request).

The latency associated with the service of the DMA hurt their sustained rate.

Are there any application notes or white papers that describes how to get large sustained data rates out of the ethernet port?

Thanks for your support,

John

  • Hi John,

Can you please provide more details both on the hardware and software being used? What types of memories are connected to the processor? What software/version is being used? I can't figure the relation between GPMC and Ethernet from the information you have provided.
