Hello team,

I am working on a project where we are leveraging the BeagleBone design for the AM3352. We're looking at booting the device from NAND memory to reduce cost. Are there any considerations or trade-offs in substituting NAND memory for the eMMC in the BeagleBone design that we should be aware of?

Hi James,

Some of the disadvantages of raw NAND against eMMC:

ECC correction - normally must be managed by processor (some NAND memories have this capability built-in). eMMC does it internally.
Wear leveling - must be managed by the FS used, while eMMC does it internally.
Bad block management - must be managed by the FS used, while eMMC does it internally.

Overall if price isn't a critical issue, then eMMC is the better solution.
