RAM limitations for AM3352

You can check EMIF Address space in Table 2-1. L3 Memory Map (continued) in AM335x TRM. For AM335x devices EMIF can interface with up to 1GB of RAM (starting at address 0x8000_0000 to 0xBFFF_FFFF).

Yes most of the DDR chips available on the market should be compatible with AM335x.

All devices from AM335x series ZCZ package (AM3352, AM3354, AM3356, AM3357, AM3358, AM3359) are pin-to-pin compatible. The AM3352, AM3354 & AM3358 operate at highest frequencies, up to 1GHz, see: http://www.ti.com/product/AM3352/compare.

To add to what Yordan posted: Memories which are JEDEC compatible should work with the AM335X. For 1GByte memory size the limiting factor is the single chip-select that the EMIF has. This prevents dual-die memories with two chip-select signals from being used. At present 1GByte memory size can be achieved only with 2x8-bit memories. There has been some advance information of 1GByte 16-bit single chip-select memory (from ISSI as far as I remember), but I don't know if this is available at present.

Thank you for your help with this. It looks like the customer is going with 528MB ISSI number 46TR16256A (256Mx16 8Gb DDR# SDRAM) since as you pointed out, all of the 1GB memory is dual select.

Any issues with using the above device with the AM335x?
