Suppressor for AM335x Touch Screen

Guru 15520 points

Hi,

I have a question about AM335x Touch Screen Controller.

The question is about the following E2E post: (This post is opened 8 month ago by me)

e2e.ti.com/.../368578

In this post, there are following answer:

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

try to place suppressors with low capacitance (TVS suitable for USB lines will probably work well).

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Is there any suggested suppressor which solved the problem written in that E2E post?

And where should suppressor be mounted on the board?

At my customer, the touch screen panel stopped operating and they need to solve the problem.

best regards,

g.f.

  • Hi g.f,

    There is no suggested suppressor. Normally suppressors should be mounted as close as possible to the place where the ESD event occurs, so that the current loop when the suppressor conducts is as far from the affected device as possible.

    For solving this issue your customer first will have to establish through what path the ESD spike is propagated to the processor. This can be done by experiments only, there is no general solution. Mechanical redesign (e.g. insulation) may be necessary to solve this.

  • We got the same problem and are still in struggle against the problem.
