Difference between AM and OMAP

Hello,

I am a bit confused between OMAP CPU and AM CPU. What are the difference exactly ?

1./ Does those processor are similar or does AM is replacing OMAP ?

I don't see any section of OMAP as if this CPU would be discontinued

I don't find any forum about OMAP that we can access also, it seems to be archived or not accessible with having some certain right

2./ Does AM processors are adapted to wearable device such as smartwatched (low power consumption) ?

Hi,

OMAP processors are not discontinued, as far as I know, but support for them is changed. Please ask your nearest TI representative for more information.

Sitara processors have similar power consumption figure to OMAP. However most of them are offered in larger packages with no PoP options for DDR memory. The exception is AM37X, which has PoP package options.

well it seems that the interactin with forum are faster than with the TI rep where i am located who doesn't seems to know OMAP

Also i think those topic can interest some other people...

I have seen the AM3715 that could subsitute potentially but I am not sure the suitability of this chipset for a smartwatch applicaiton

Laurent, we see also AM335x family used in wearable devices even though AM37xx has lower power consumption. You need to compare features vs prices. In terms of support, AM335x is supported by newer version of Linux as well as Android (via 3P) than AM37xx.
