H264 encoder speed

Hello!

Can you advise, which h264 encoder parameters should be adjusted to increase encoding speed, please?

I'm using DM368 at 432MHz core and 340MHz DDR, and when encoding video 1980 x 1088, function

VIDENC1_process (processing buffer with frame) takes not less then 43ms, i.e. my speed is below 25fps.

Encoder is ver. 2.30.00.04. My settings are 2Mbps bit rate, encodingPreset = XDM_HIGH_SPEED, input chroma 420SP,

Frame rate 25fps, others are default.

What should I change at first order to get at least 25 fps?

Hi,

Is it possible to switch to Encoder version 2.30.00.06 (GA Release). Set encodingPreset = user defined, EncoderQuality to 2(High Quality Platinum mode). It should meet you requirement for resolution 1920x1080. (With High Quality Platinum mode you should see 30fps).

Sorry for misprint, of course it's 1920 x 1088 rather then 1980

Thanks for attention to the question.
Is .06 version so different from .04? 04 also has Platinum mode and in datasheet says about 30fps for 1080p
On Ti website (where I got it from) only 04 is presented.

Isn't setting encoderPreset= XDM_USER_DEFINED and encQuality=2 the same as setting encodingPreset = XDM_HIGH_QUALITY?

.06 version has bug fixes over .04 version and its GAed release. You can download 02.30.00.06 here: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/codecs/DM36x/index_FDS.html

Yes both are same. When encoderPreset= XDM_USER_DEFINED only then encQuality settings will take effect. Else encodingPreset overrides encQuality.
