Boot-UP Screen/logo Change

Hi,

We are tried in the internet for BootUP Screen change but we didnt get any where, all places pslpash is only mentioned for boot-time reduction.

We have to updated the Boot-up Screen/Logo with new image and be able to change the screen-image.

Please kindly help me here.

Thank you for the reply- Biser. We are not using psplash-screen.

we looking for run-time boot-up-screen update and that updated image should come as boot-up-screen from the next boot- onwards.

Actually we will get image from uart on runtime, storing image etc., those things are done -- only we are not able to find is :
where to update this boot-up screen in kernel/u-boot.

These are two different things. I'm sorry, I cannot help on this since you are not using psplash, which is the method used in the Sitara SDK.

Thank you for the reply. Its Not a big deal -- for ur support and to our expectations from TI.

Our Requirements:
1. We will get an "temp.jpg "image from UART on the run-time.
2. we have to store in non-volatile memory.
3. that image can be set as boot-up screen and that should come on LCD from next boot-up onwards.
4. In Every Boot-Up we have to calculate the CRC of the image , if matches then only load that image on to LCD.

First of all please define when do you want the image to appear on-screen: immediately on power-up (u-boot) or when the kernel starts. These are two completely different procedures. U-boot uses direct memory addressing, while the kernel remaps the memory and allocates a framebuffer in which the image must be placed.

Happy and thank you.
As of now we are looking only in "Kernel" Side only. because the image will come in run-time.

Do you have link which give's brief description or steps for the boot-screen update with ".jpg" or the location in the kernel, where this functionality handles.

As I pointed above, in the Sitara SDK this is handled by the psplash program. The inconvenience from your point of usage will be that this program is normally used with the logo embedded in it. I suggest you download the source code (link can be found in the wiki above) and modify it to suit your use case, i.e. load the logo from a known location.

your point is right.

But we will get logo/temp.jpg in the run-time through UART, through command we have to set that image as boot-up screen and every boot-up time we have to calculate the CRC every boot, then only load if matches.

I don't see a problem with that. You can do the CRC calculation in your customized psplash program and load image only on match, otherwise exit.

Another important point is that you cannot display a JPEG image through the LCD controller. The image must be 24-bit RGB bitmap (color depth of course depends on what your display supports).

As per previous conversation: One of the method is suits better:

In this we are looking only from kernel starts - if we get either fixed memory location to place the image or how to map this image-mem location , so that we can link that to a frame-buffer.

There is no ready-to-use solution in the SDK for this. You will either need to write a small program of your own to load the image into the frame buffer, or add this code in the framebuffer initialization.
