Difference between TCI6488 and TMS320C6474

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6474

Hi all,

I want to know briefly what's a difference between TCI6488 and TMS320C6474 . thanks for your help

  • Both devices appear to have public datasheets, so you could do a bit of a comparison there, I am not familiar enough with the TCIxxxx to say for sure but a brief look makes it seem like they are very similar at least. In general the TCIxxxx parts are targeted at telecommunication infrastructure customers specifically, and the engineers involved with the parts do not necessarily watch this forum regularly (most folks here only work on the Cxxxx parts), so if you are looking for details on the TCI parts you may want to ask your local TI contact, though they may not be able to help much unless your company is a telecommunications infrastructure business.

  • Hi Bernie,

I know that TCI6488 is Texas instruments product, but in the some documentation, I found TCI6488 (Faraday), I want to know what is the relationship between TI and Faraday company. I think that Faraday is just Vendor of DSP's  TI. Thanks for your help.

  • The mention of Faraday should probably not be in public documents to prevent this sort of confusion, it bears no relationship to any third party company, and is simply an internal label for the technology in the TCI6488.

  • TCI6488 is for a specific market, limited customer base and support structure, it also has an accelerator that is not included on TMS320C6474.

The TMS320C6474 is for the general market.

As for the term Faraday, it was an internal code name and has no relation ship to anything outside of Texas Instruments.  And it should not be an any Documentation. If you can let me know what documentation it was found in I would appreciate it.

    Best Regards,

    Chad
