AM437x EtherPHY Recommended connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK105L, TLK110

Hi

We are using AM335x and AM371x now.
We'll seriously consider AM437x to our next product.
Could you please let us know about below questions?

1. AM437x's EMAC and AM335x's EMAC same IP? It seem both register is almost same.

2. And if the same, for the customers who are using the Ether in AM335X.
Would you please put me in touch with the some of the actual use TI's PHY?
EVM's Reference is other maker's chip on board.
(Small package, GbitEther correspondence is nice to have.)

3. Although in portable products will form is realized by providing a LAN connector in the cradle.
If it is two of the configuration of the following, what easy Which is realized?
・Ether PHY is placed in the cradle side, to be connected to the terminal side of the AM437X.
・the Ether PHY is placed on the terminal side, to connect the LAN signal directly to the cradle side of the LAN connector.
If there is such use results in portable products Would you please advise it as a reference.

Best regards,

  • Hi,

    1. Yes, it's the same IP.

    2. You are free to choose any PHY you want. If choosing one that isn't supported in the Linux SDK you will need to add it in SW.

    3. I would recommend placing the PHY as close to the processor as possible. On the Magnetics side of the PHY the signals are differential and much easier to transfer over longer distances.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your response.
Please find the below comment in line your answers.

    >1. Yes, it's the same IP.
We understood that the same IP.

    >2. You are free to choose any PHY you want. If choosing one that isn't supported in the Linux SDK you will need to add it in SW.
In this development we use the OS is not a Linux.
We understand that to cover in SW implementation.
Since the BSP is made to EVM, it will think KSZ9031RN of micrel.
That basis, please tell me the part number of TI PHY (recommended) proven connected with AM335x or AM437x.
As much as possible we want to unify the TI product.

    >3. I would recommend placing the PHY as close to the processor as possible. On the Magnetics side of the PHY the signals are differential and much easier to transfer over longer distances.
It was understood to be should put the PHY in the near of the processor.

    Best regards,
  • The only TI manufactured PHYs used in our reference designs is TLK110, used in AM335X ICE board and TLK105L used in AM437X IDK. Note that these are used on Industrial Ethernet interfaces.

    Hi,

    1. Yes, it's the same IP.

Actually, it's been upgraded to support IEEE1588 over IPV6. The CPSW HW on the AM3 series of devices does not.
