Reserved Memory in C5501 DSP

Hi ,

I am using C5501 DSP for my application. When I read through the data manual (SPRS206) I see that the memory boundary ( 008000h - 010000h)  is marked as reserved. Can anybody tell me the reason behind this 'reserved' mystery.  My data & program memory needs more space and I was looking to use the memory ( 008000h - 010000h)  before I came across this document. So I am stuck there. Also this memory restriction is not seen in C5502 processor data manual. Can you please state the reason for it being marked 'Reserved' ?  What happens when this memory is used ? .

Thanks in Advance

Kumar

  • Kumar,

Good news -- the 5502 is a pin-for-pin compatible drop-in replacement.  All you need to do is buy the 5502 to get that extra memory.

  • Hi Brad,

Thank you very much for the reply.  From your reply I can understand that C5502 is an exact replacement of c5501 except for the extra memory space. Is that right ? Also, does it mean it comes for the same price ?  Kindly clarify as this switch over decision is vital for our product development.

    Many Thanks.

  • The 5502 is an exact replacement -- zero hardware changes required.  It has twice as much memory as the 5501 and also provides another McBSP.  The 5502 is more expensive.  You can find 1ku pricing in the product folders.  For other quantities please ask your distributor for a quote.
