Queries Regarding DM8165

Hello TI,

Can I have some information regarding DM8165? We are looking onto migrate from DM8148 to DM8165, so we have some queries regarding the same:

Does it utilize the same EZSDK infrastructure as DM8148?
Can we reuse our current OpenMAX based code for DM8148 to support DM8165?
Does it utilize the same video core as DM8148?
Does it support 2 independent video pipelines (2 video captures + 2 scalers/de-interlacers + 2 video encoders + 2 audio captures + 2 audio encoders)?
Are both video encoders capable of providing 1080p60 simultaneously?
Are video encoders capable of interlaced encoding facility?
What is the maximum video encoder bitrate?
What are the capabilities of audio: number of channels/bitrates/AAC-LC/AAC-HE?
Can you provide with any video and audio encoder technical description for our evaluation?
Might it run under Android? Does TI provide with Android development environment for this processor?
Can it run under TI-RTOS Linux?

Does 8165 support two independent audio captures/encoders?
Does 8165 support two independent video scalers/de-interlacers?

You can create multiple AAc encoder instances as long as there is memory.

Is this required to support multi channel?

Yes, we are looking for multichannel. Also we are interested in two different independent instances of Audio/Video capture to encode.

So we need to confirm whether we can do this with DM8165?

Hi Krunal,
In ezsdk , DSP_ALG_HEAP is 20MB. Each codec instance created for DSP will consumed some heap.
If this memory is available, you can create more dsp codec instances

Refer data sheet of respective codec. Here scrach + instance is the heap memory allocated for each instance. It also depends on which configuration you are using ex; 2 channel, 5 channel, LC, HE etc. for audio codecs it won't be more than 100kb

Hi Ram,

I have some more queries regarding DM8165.

Does it utilize the same video core as DM8148?
Can it be used with the same BSP and SDK as DM8148 (kernel 2.6.37/ezsdk)?
What is the estimated maximum bitrate that can be handled by ARM? Namely is 20Mbps + 10Mbps (2 channels) is achievable offhand?

1. Yes. The same HDVICP
2. DM8168 has its own EZSDK. However the components are similar. software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

3. I will suggest you take a look into benchmark of your audio program and estimate the ARM loading.
