Hi.

My customer would like to optimize the NOR boot for speed. So he is considering EMIFA parameter changes (such as the parameters in CE2CFG) in the boot time. Would you please tell me how long wait is needed to restart EMIFA CS2 access after the parameter change?

Why we need to wait for EMIFA configuration changes ?

You can refer to some NAND init code in the following location, there you can no delay implemented while initialization the EMIFA.

C:\ti\OMAPL138_StarterWare_1_10_04_01\examples\lcdkOMAPL138\nand\nandReadWrite.c

Are you changing the EMIFA register in runtime ?
Are you using any bootloader ?

You have mentioned C674x, so I presume that you have used DSP only C16748 or C6747) processor.

You can use the optimized CE2CFG register value while converting app into AIS format to get better boot time optimization.
If you use non-AIS NOR boot, you have to use optimized CE2CFG register value while NOR initialization.

Which boot type are you using ?
AIS NOR boot or non-AIS NOR boot ?

Thank you for your quick reply.

Yes, the customer would like to change the EMIFA register in runtime of the user boot code. He is going to use non-AIS (direct NOR boot). So the user boot code executes directory in the CS2 space. If no wait is needed for CE2CFG register change as you mentioned, I assume that we can modify CE2CFG register in runtime by the user boot code, right?

Yes, no wait is required for EMIFA settings but not sure why you need to change this register run time.
Are you reconfiguring the EMIFA register ?
If yes, then where did you change the EMIFA register initially ?

Thank you for your reply. The customer wants to reconfigure the EMIFA settings than the default settings for EMIFA read speed optimization. He has not implemented it yet. Do we have any place (timing) where we can reconfigure CE2CFG in the direct NOR boot run-time?

Hi,
Yes, I think, we can configure this CE2CFG register at any time, i.e prior to any transfer with new value (only configuration register CEnCFG ) .
Please refer to the OMAPL138/C6748 TRM chapter 20.4.5.
Also, please note that this register is 32bit access (word), so you have to write in 32bit value with new config.
