DM365 HDMi input and output

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM368

Hello,

I've seen some topics with this subject, but not sure if I saw a definitive answer on this.

Can DM365 connect to an HDMI receiver device?

 Both audio and video?

Support 1080p30 input?

Can a graphics layer be mixed on top of a 1080p30 input?

Can DM365 connect to an HDMI transmitter device?

 Both audio and video?

 Support 1080p30 output?

Thanks.

  • In general, for your over all query, you may want to consider DM368 as it is more targeted at 1080p30 applications, and HDMI is certainly possible (with most any Davinci device) with external HDMI transceiver hardware, though no reference designs exist for DM36x that I know of.

This is certainly possible, though I do not know of any reference designs that implement HDMI, it is just a matter of finding a suitable HDMI receiver that can interface with the interfaces provided by the DM365.

Basically the same answer as above, the HDMI receiver would have to separate out the audio so that it could be sent into a serial port on the DM365.

Theoretically you could receive 1080p30 (up to 75MHz pixel clock as a master, and 120MHz as a slave), though  the more typical 1080p60 is not possible on the DM365 due to higher pixel clock requirements. Please keep in mind that the DM365 is not really targeted at 1080p applications, but rather 720p, so doing much processing on such a signal may be problematic, you may want to consider the recently announced TMS320DM368 as an alternative.

This is possible, however as the DM365 is more meant for 720p applications, you may end up running into bandwidth problems with 1080p, I don't know of any 1080p30 test cases for DM365.

These two are the same as above.

Similar to the capture situation, only you can only have up to a 75MHz pixel clock.

  • Hello Bernie,

Is there a ref design yet for HDMI Rx? What is a recommended HDMI Rx?

    Thanks & Best Regards

I am not aware of any reference design or recommended HDMI receiver for the DM365. In general my impression is that HDMI receivers are hard to come by as they require special licensing for the HDCP they must use, in general I don't think they can be purchased in small volumes easily if at all.

  • Bernie,

You are correct that HDMI receivers with HDCP require a very substantial licensing agreement to be signed and also require a $5M+ indemnity.

If you do not need HDCP decryption then there are a few devices available, but not many.
