How to enable Direct I/O mode or Message Passing mode on C6670 SRIO

Ans1&3: LSUx_Reg5 FType and TType bit fields. For more information refer section "2.1.2.4 SRIO Packet Type" on SRIO user guide and TI SRIO training documents.

Also refer the MCSDK SRIO examples, SRIO_TputBenchmarkingTestProject will support both mode of SRIO transfer.

Ans2: Better to use DirectIO mode transfer between DSP and FPGA communication. You can achieve max throughput with directIO, NWRITE/SWRITE without response gives the highest performance.

Thank you Ganapathi. LSUx_Reg5 is only for Direct I/O operation. It is not used for selecting message passing mode right ?

FType is used and TType is not used(don't care) for selecting message passing mode.

Okay. But why the SRIO User guide (SPRUGW1B) says that LSU is only for Direct I/O configuration ? I am not clear on this . Can you elaborate the Tx operation ?

The ftype header field of the received RapidIO message packets is decoded by the logical layer of the peripheral. Only Type 11, Type 9 and Type 13 (transaction type 1) packets are routed to the PKTDMA module. Data is routed from the priority-based RX
FIFOs to the CPPI module’s data buffer within the shared buffer pool. The mbox (mailbox) header fields are examined by the mailbox mapper block. Based on Mailbox, letter, source ID, and Destination ID the data is assigned the destination CPPI queue
ID (QID) and flow ID. The maximum buffer space should accommodate 256 bytes of data, as that is the maximum payload size of a RapidIO packet. Each message in memory will be represented by a buffer descriptor in the CPPI queue.

Ganapathi this is for the Rx operation. I am looking for Tx operation. And to my understanding you are saying LSUx_Reg5 is used for Message passing as well right ?

Yes, LSU is only for DirectIO configuration. Have you referred the TI SRIO training documents and MCSDK example codes? It will help you for understanding the difference between SRIO DirectIO and Message passing TX operation.
