AM335x : max current drawn for VBUS in High Speed

Hello Everybody,

Another question regarding the USB. It might not directly been related to the AM335x though I'm working with it right now.

The Thing is : I'd like to connect two USB port to my AM335x.

If I'm looking the norm, the current flowing through VBUS can reach  500mA (spec).

Shall I foresee a +5V,1A Supply only for the USB ? I can't believe both USB draws so much current ?

Did you have any problem with that on your several evalboards ?

I was just looking the solar inverter and it seems it doesn't need so much current as the norm specifies.

Thank you,

Regards,

Younes

  • As you mentioned, the spec requires that AC or DC powered root port hubs provide *at least* 5x 100mA unit loads (500mA total). Battery powered systems may supply only a single unit load (100ma) if they wish. This type of port is termed a low-power port; they are uncommon.

It's best to supply at least 500mA per-port as many applications will expect full power. Please review the TI TPS206n product family for USB power switching: www.ti.com/.../tps2065
