Arago Project Questions - Linux Support on AM437x Family

Hello Team,

My customer would like some help to understand the Arago project better:

I’m looking for some help in understanding how the Arago project relates to TI’s support of Linux on their processors. They are looking at Linux on the AM437x family specifically. They are interested in Yocto support and according to Tis web-pages this is done through Arago.

Here are the specific questions:

  • Does TI support the use of Arago on their products?  If yes, to what extent?
  • Do you have tested instructions and specific revisions for building Arago toolchain and images for the eval board (please specify which eval board for AM437x) using Yocto 1.8 Fido (the AragoWiki does not cover this)?  Can you forward where the updated details are or provide a detailed explanation?
  • Do you see any issues with taking this approach?

Sincerely,

Dan Nitta Mackay TSR Ottawa Canada Sales Office

    Dan,

That's correct. The TI SDK is based off of our reference distribution, called Arago. It is built using Yocto/Open-Embedded Core.

Kind of. The SDK is a reference, but we fully expect that customers will want to add stuff and take away other stuff to build their own custom distribution that meets their needs. As far as support goes, all of this stuff is pulled from the community. We integrate it into an SDK and test it to make sure it works in the SDK as best we can. So, we support the SDK, yes. The customizations that the customer makes is up to them.

Please see this. I'm not sure if this is specifically based off of Fido, but it is the latest SDK release that we have. That should help.

This may help as well, but it is more dated.

This is the correct approach by building on the SDK and using Yocto layers to make necessary changes.

  • Thanks for the support on this - I have shared with the customer the details of above.
